Children and Young People
| Children and Young People The Challenge We have an under-achieving learning district with a tradition of low expectations for academic and vocational achievement. We must work to improve expectations, opportunities, participation and achievement. Priorities - Increasing access to learning in early years.
- Raise attainment levels for under 16 year olds.
- Promote the benefits of learning and increase the number of young people in education, employment or training.
- Support the development of the 14 - 19 year old school curriculum to broaden the range of opportunities available for young people.
- Make learning accessible and inclusive to residents aged 16+.
- Raise the qualifications of the adult population.
- Raise adult basic skills levels.
- Address skills shortages for 16 - 25 year olds to support economic development through Work based Learning and workforce development.
- Raise aspirations and improve progression to Higher Education.
